Bug Description

I use Unity with German locale (de_DE.UTF-8).

For the datetime indicator, I selected to show day and month in the panel. Currently, it shows: 15. Apr,, 23:32

Note the duplicate comma. I guess it should be: 15. Apr., 23:32 (abbreviating the month name with a dot, but separating date and time with a comma).

I think the second comma should disappear at all like in maverick.

Currently it is: So, 17. Apr,, 10:15
Should be: So, 17. Apr, 10:15

Btw: Is bug 762761 a duplicate of this or the other way around?

This seems to be a translations issue: In /usr/share/locale-langpack/de/LC_MESSAGES/indicator-datetime.mo the date format strings are translated with a trailing comma, e.g. "%a" is translated as "%a," In addition, the comma is included in the translation for the combination of date and time, i.e. "%s %s" is translated as "%s, %s". The two together lead to the "double comma".

 I do not see the trailing commas for dates in the launchpad translations anymore -- so possibly this problem will simply disappear with the next language pack update?

This seems to have been fixed in the German translation in Launchpad, which added the extra comma¹. The next language packs should contain the fix. I'm going to mark it as duplicate of bug 729631, but feel free to unmark it if the problem still persists after the next language pack update.
