Bug Description

Binary package hint: alacarte

I think this may be related to bug #75101 (although I don't get that error message) and the rejected bug #51332.

Using alacarte 0.10.1-0ubuntu1 on Edgy.

Alacarte appears not to be updating its display, although it is actually changing the menu. This makes it appear as though it isn't doing anything, although it is. It also makes it very hard to use.

Checking the 'show' box next to an application has no visible effect (I would expect the box to be checked). The menus are actually updated, however.

If you make a new menu item it doesn't then appear in alacarte. It does appear in the actual menu though.

Changing the icon used by an application updates it in the menu, but alacarte still shows the old icon.

If you close alacarte and restart it still doesn't show the new info. It is as though it is using a static copy of the application data. The menus remain changed, of course.

I've run from the command line and I don't get any errors. I've had an occasional one about dbus, but nothing that looks interesting.

I got this issue with Alacarte 0.11.3-0ubuntu2.

1) I installed 'lyx' from local DVD (repositories) using synaptic.

2) It didn't show up in the Office menu entry (Applications-> Office). Not there.

3) Yet it was there when you "Edit menus" (alacarte).

4) To make it show up I had to untick it from the "Main Menu" editor app (alacarte), then "Close", then edit it again and tick it.

This isn't good for users who expect their installed applications to be in the menu.

That is a separate bug in gnome-menus that should be fixed in gutsy.
