iceccd produces no log

Bug Description

Binary package hint: icecc

Something seems to be wrong with the way ubuntu calls iceccd. The daemon will not create a log in /var/log/iceccd.log. When calling the binary straight from the command line instead of via /etc/init.d the log is being created. Perhaps this is a permissions problem? /var/log is drwxr-xr-x root.root.

When you start iceccd with the init script, which permissions does it have? Does it drop privileges?

What is "it"? /var/log/iceccd.log? /etc/init.d/icecc? Something else entirely?

iceccd is running as user root if that is what you are asking. It does not seem to drop priviledges.

"sudo /etc/init.d/icecc restart" will not produce a log, while calling icecc directly does (first do a "ps faux|grep icecc" to get the command line used by the init script, then stop icecc and lastly call as root the command line gotten from the first step.)

Thanks for reporting this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better.

I can confirm this problem on hardy BETA. Just install the package. The daemon is automatically started. No log is created. Restarts via init.d script do not create log file. Compiling with errors does not create a log file.
