Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-app-install

When attemting to use Add/Remove error mesage appears saying "Add/Remove... closed unexpectedly". I pushed reopen button and get another error message, "Sorry program "python2.5 closed unexpectedly."
At this moment there is a message saying "Problem Report for gnome-app-install" and asks to include this, /var/crash/_usr_bin_gnome-app-install.1000.crash
This is a Feisty Fawn, Herd 2 install from CD

Seems to work with sudo, like the 79274 (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/79274). Maybe relative to dbus, but I don't know where I can affect this.

Thanks for your bugreport.

The latest upload of gnome-app-install should fix the issue (0.3.5). Please let me know if it solves the issue for you.

I'm currently using gnome-app-install 0.3.5. See line 279 of my problem report. I don't think its fixed.

@BrettLee: so just installing the new version does not work for you? does it work if you run (in a terminal):
$ sudo /usr/sbin/update-app-install

Does it work after that?

@Michael Vogt: I'm fixed. I was reading on the pickle bug page...anyway you posted that running the following worked for you:

$ sudo python2.5 /usr/sbin/update-app-install ; gnome-app-install

It worked for me as well and Add/Remove from the menu works too.

$ sudo /usr/sbin/update-app-install

Thank you very much =)

This bug is a little different this set of times.
Bug #79154 and this bug (#79379) both happen as soon as you try to open add/remove apps. I had that bug the first time when I filled this bug(#79379).
The bug I'm getting now happens when you start choosing things to install, certain choices cause the (bug) crash message.
This bug mutation may need to be filed separately to get properly added and addressed.

@miked: what version of g-a-i do you have installed? the key-error problem should be (hopefully) fixed with the latest version in feisty.

This should be fixed with the upload of 0.3.9. Please reopen if it does not fix the issue for you.
