Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

When upgrading i'm getting the following error:

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade:
E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be
caused by held packages.

This can be caused by:
* Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu

Hello, 10x for your interest. I don't have x-swat. Should I install it? If yes what to do after the installation?

Actually, you should not have it. Lets see two things:

1) Files from /var/log/dist-upgrade

2) Files from within /etc/apt/

Thanks.

Note: I am editing the description because that data will be included in one of the files you will be attaching.

You are getting an error in the main.log 'No Sockets found in /var/run/screen/S-root.' so the error output is not in there.

Can you attach a different main.log so I can have a look?

Sorry for the delay. Unfortunately I will be away again until Sunday July 3rd. Please do the following and I will be sure to check up on this again when I return.

1) Post the output of:
apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-video-intel

2) Try the upgrade again and when it fails, attach the apt.log and main.log from under the directory /var/log/dist-upgrade.

Thanks.

It seems you did have a PPA in use at one point. The unofficial packages are what's causing the upgrade to fail.

'http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates/ubuntu/ maverick/main amd64 Packages 2.4.21-1ubuntu2.1 0 500 '

This needs to be removed along with its packages. Consider using the tool 'ppa-purge' to do this. (You may need to install it.) The proper use of the command would be:

sudo ppa-purge ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates

sudo ppa-purge ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa

sudo ppa-purge ppa:linux/chrome

Take note if the purge for chrome works or not.
