Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Probably that the bug report can help.

I wanted to add to bug #66180, but can't find how to reopen. On the other hand, this current bug is not related to network since the files are local.

Thank you for your bug. That looks like a memory corruption, could you try to get a valgrind log (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Valgrind) for it?

I don't really know Valgrind, but using this command :

valgrind -v --tool=memcheck --leak-check=full --num-callers=12 --log-file=valgrind.log rhythmbox

The memcheck process use 100% of cpu and a LOT of memory. Playing songs does not work properly. They stop, play, stop play, etc. Is there another command or argument that you could suggest me?

If not, I'll use that, but I'll start the playing before going to bed :)

Thanks.

right, valgrind slow applications a lot, running it while you are not using the program looks like a good idea

Here is the valgrind file. I started with the line above before going to bed and in the morning, rhythmbox was not running anymore. So I don't know if this is what you need. Let me know if you need something else.

Marking unconfirmed, the log doesn't look really useful. Maybe somebody wants to forward the code upstream, we have too many bugs for the number of people working on them at the moment and upstream knows the code better

Excellent. Eventually, I'll add something here if I can reproduce this more accurately.

I am now using Feisty (Ubuntu 7.04) and will be unable to reproduce this exact bug since the version of Rhythmbox has changed. Hence, it is better to close this bug report and I'll open another if it happens again.

Hi

I am running the new release candidate of Ubuntu 8.04 and Rhythmbox does the same as above - after an hour or two it freezes - I am able to kill the app, simply by right-clicking on the taskbar and choosing close, and then saying to the pop-up window asking if I want to stop the app which is not responding - however after that I cannot play any further sound of any sort, even in a movie in Totem - it would appear that the sound system becomes totally locked - I have to reboot to cure this - and after a reboot Rhythmbox plays as before the freeze.

Please note the files are in my home directory, as created by Ubunu during the install process, this is a default install of Ubuntu 8.04, plus all updates as of an hour back. I am running Ubuntu in a dual-boot with WinXP on a 200 gig drive - Ubuntu is on the last 40 gig space, which was unused prior to install of Ubuntu.

App is Rhythmbox 0.11.5

The codecs are ones suggested by Totem, prior to starting Rhythmbox - 2 Gstreamer packages, allowing mp3 and avi support

The other applications are not affected, barring the fact that I need to restart to regain access to sound.

If there is any further info you need please let me know.

I am wondering if I should install Amarok to see if it happens with that too - which would then point to the sound system rather than Rhythmbox ?

Thanks

Gray
