feisty installation does not umount mounted partitions before their creation

Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

If I mount a partition before install, to check it before wiping, and after that i choose to format it, the installer will exit (and I will have to start it again) telling that it can't create the partition, without telling me why. It should just umount the partition before creation.

Did you get any error messages at all?

If you did it would really help if you could attach them, there's some help here if you need it: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingUbiquity/AttachingLogs

I would have to risk to format my partition again now :) I don't have a free partition now. If needed (you can tell me privately) I will try an installation under virtualbox and provide additional information.

The error window has the title "Failed to create a file system" and the text is "The ext3 file system creation in partition #1 of IDE1 master (hda) failed." (or something similar depending on partition and drive, obviously)

Because this will stop the installation, and subsequent attempts will result with the same error, shouldn't the importance/urgency of this bug be increased?

As was commented on in the duplicate ( Bug #83766 ) -- this will confuse lots of users because it is so easy to mount a partition without realizing it.

FYI, problem persists in Fiesty Herd-5.

I fixed this following bug 89605; at the time I had forgotten that this bug also existed.
