Bug Description

Binary package hint: upgrade-system

When I entered terminal command of "gksu "upgrade-manager -c"", the automated upgrade from 6.06 to 6.10 commenced, but it stopped when a dialog box opened up with the message:

"Failed to fetch http://theli.free.fr/packages/dapper/./Packages.gz 404 Not Found"

I re-started the upgrade several times with the same conclusion.

I would like perform the upgrade this way since it is the easiest, and doesn't require me to either burn a CD (which didn't work) or send for a new CD.

Ok ty. Can you please open terminal and type gksudo "gedit /etc/apt/sources.list"
once that opens please put a # in the begginning of each line i post here. example: if i type #deb http://bleh/bleh you would make the line look like what i put here including the # in the beginning.

#deb cdrom:[Ubuntu 6.10 _Edgy Eft_ - Release i386 (20061025)]/ edgy main restricted

#deb http://deb.opera.com/opera/ etch non-free

#deb http://theli.free.fr/packages/dapper/ ./

#deb http://people.ubuntu.com/~seb128/deb ./

after thats done please save and close gedit. than in terminal type sudo apt-get update. once that is done please run gksudo "update-manager -c" again and see what happens.
One reason i can see why update-manager is failing is because you have the cdrom repo enabled. (the first line of the list)
@nd could be the debian repos and the automatix repos. please let me know what happens.

Rejecting bug because user had cdrom repo and net repos including automatix repos enabled.
Michael if this si something you think that needs to be addressed in update-manager please feel free to either ping me on IRC or here.

The upgrade didn't complete properly afterall.

When re-booting to what I thought would be 6.10, a dialog box came up with the message:

"Failed to start the X server (your graphical interface). It is likely that it is not set up correctly. Would you like to view the X server output to diagnose the problem ?"

I am now attempting to load 6.06 back-in with a disk that I created on my work PC.

Another problem with trying to load 6.06: when I install via a CD I can never get beyond the "Keyboard Layout" question. I've tried three times wth no success.

My next step: attempt to load 5.04 from a CD that I received from Ubuntu.

It's gotta work !
