Please attach /etc/default/console-setup and a copy of your initramfs (the file pointed to by the symlink /initrd.img or /boot/initrd.img, whichever exists), and tell me exactly what you expect to see at boot that isn't happening. Thanks in advance.

Changed in console-setup:
status: Unconfirmed → Needs Info

Hi,

at boot my console is not setup, the font is not the one in /etc/default/console-setup nor the size.

But when i start without usplash it works

It is like if the /etc/init.d/console-setup was not called when usplash is on.

Same problem here. The consoles tty1-6 ignore the console-setup settings. Only in Recovery Mode the settings of console-setup work.

Confirmed, ISO-8859-1 (for example) is ignored in /etc/default/console-setup. Manually starting of console-setup does not help (I don't know the system behind it, but it would be active after reboot, so it should go into initrd?)

Hi,
same problem here. Is it possibly the wrong runlevel to call /etc/init.d/console-setup?
ls -al /etc/rc?.d/*console-setup
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 23 2006-10-27 21:04 /etc/rcS.d/S49console-setup -> ../init.d/console-setup

I do confirm this as well.

Also, I don't seem to be able to get colors on the console (same as bug #105780), everything is grayish, while in recovery mode everything works fine.

My system was updated from edgy. I tried reinstalling the package and I tried fiddling many times with 'sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup', and I tried setting many fonts, with no result. Sometimes I'm missing the color, sometimes it's the encoding that gets screwed.

I have double-checked this, and I think it's a kernel problem, not a console-setup one, at least on my system. Maybe it's a vesafb-related issue.

I've recompiled the kernel from the original 2.6.20 source from kernel.org, and the problem suddenly disappeared.

I'm reporting this on the opportune package, please everybody who's reading this, write some lines about your hardware.

Mine is a Dell Latitude D810 with ATI Radeon Mobile X600 graphic card.

when I change the font in console-setup, it changes the font immediately. at boot the font changes in that font (after giving the first messages in another one), but then swiches back to the old one (when usplash tells "setting console font")
