Thank you for your bug. What version of Ubuntu do you use? What is your locale? de_DE.UTF-8?

I cannot confirm this with de_DE.UTF-8 in Feisty.

Does this happen in all the folders? Do you use compiz/beryl/xgl?

Does moving .evolution/mail/searches.xml away fix your problem? For how long do you have your user configuration? Upstream http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=259923 mention a such problem as being an upgrade bug from previous version

one important thing while removing the file is that evolution has to be
shut down (evolution --force-shutdown)
