This is the document that crashed it. I have a Samsung ML-1610, BTW.

attaching /etc/cups/ppd/ML-1610.ppd as well, since it's slightly different from the ones in /usr/share/ppd/splix/ml1610*.ppd

btw, "different PPD" -> I didn't touch it, cups modified the PPD when installing the driver.

Reported the problem to the upstream author of SpliX.

A test to check whether the problem is really upstream can e done as folows:

Uninstall Ubuntu's SpliX package and install the OpenPrinting SpliX package:

http://openprinting.org/download/printdriver/RPMS/i486/splix-1.0.1-1lsb3.1.i486.rpm

Instructions:

http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/Database/DriverPackages

Does the file get printed? Or does this SpliX version crash the same way?

Additional remark: You need to remove and re-install the print queue after installing the OpenPrinting SpliX package. Take also care to use the same option settings.

I'm on amd64, so this package will not work. There are no x86_64 or
powerpc packages, can you give me some quick instructions how to build
the srpm on Ubuntu?

Thank you!

Install the "rpmbuild" package (if not available simply "rpm") and do

rpmbuild --rebuild <SRPM package>

Hm, that's more tricky than I thought. I already added sudo (for the /usr/src/rpm/SOURCES goo) and --nodeps, but it still fails:

$ sudo rpmbuild --rebuild --nodeps splix-1.0.1-1lsb3.1.src.rpm
Installiere splix-1.0.1-1lsb3.1.src.rpm

Hmm, cannot replicate any more. I close this for now and reopen if it happens again at some time.
