The system was doing a lot of things: copying severals gigabytes in a file, closing openoffice.org calc, and gedit was opening a corrupted file

Thanks for your bug report. The crash looks like a memory corruption. Could you try to get a valgrind log for it? (you can follow the instructions from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Valgrind for that)

I see. The file I was opening with gedit was corrupted.

might be due to it, gedit should not crash on a corrupted file though. Could you get the valgrind log?
