Problems at end of Feisty herd 4 install to hard drive

Bug Description

I CONTINUE to have the problem that at the end of the hard drive installation of Feisty herd 4 that when I hit the button saying to reboot the machine (as opposed to going back to the LIVE CD session), it DOES go back to the LIVE CD session instead of rebooting the machine. I then have to choose to manually restart the machine from the system, quit buttons on the panel and then when it starts to shutdown, it gives me the prompt to remove the CD from the drive BUT the CD will NOT eject from the drive. At this point, I have to turn the machine off by holding down the power button. When I restart the machine by turning the power button back on, I then choose to boot to the hard drive installation that I just got thru doing and it boots to the installation fine. I then eject the install CD from the CD drive.

All of this is almost the exact same problem I had during the installation process for DESKTOP version of Feisty herd 3.

I am using 32 bit. I do not know about 64 bit.

I seem to have the same issue.

Herd 3 was/is fine.

Herd 4 install reaches the end and offers the reboot or continue using the live cd.

If I select to restart, I see a jump back to a login screen stating that the user ubuntu will login in 10 seconds. Once the counter expires I am taken back to the standard live cd desktop with the normal associated icons for install etc.

Thanks for your bug report. This is a known issue with Herd 4 and is slated to be fixed. This issue was actually mentioned in the release notes:

This is an early set of images, so you can expect some bugs. Among
these are the following (so you do not need to bother reporting these
if you encounter them):

  * The desktop CD fails to reboot when the graphical installer
    finishes, due to a change in GDM which is not yet picked up by
    other components of the distribution.
