Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

version: 2.17.91

steps to reproduce:

1) insert media or connect any device which is not auto mounted
2) go to 'Places' -> 'Computer'
3) click on the icon of that device

result:
the device is mounted and '/' (root) folder is presented in nautilus

expected action:
the device should be mounted and its contents presented in nautilus

notes:
1) then clicking again on the same icon of already mounted device it works as expected
2) the same problem exists in Edgy and FC6, it is especially obvious with diskettes which are never auto mounted

Thank you for your bug. What sort of media do you use? I just tried with a CDROM on my feisty desktop and that works fine

It happens for all sorts of media, Diskettes, CD-ROMs, MMC cards etc., on different machines. The important part is that the device should not be mounted when you click on it, otherwise you would not notice this bug. I've just tried it again to make sure, it's still there.
Do it like this:
1) Insert a CD, it will get auto mounted by default
2) type unmount /media/cdrom0
3) click on the CD-ROM icon in 'Computer'

I've just had some time to install the final version of 7.04 on a totally different machine and the bug still presists.

1) go to System->Preferences->Removable Drives and Media

2) uncheck "Mount removable media when inserted"

3) insert a CD

4) go to Places->Computer

5) double click on the CD-ROM icon

...and with clean hardy install.

That is LiveCD "Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (Hardy Heron) Alpha 3"

 - insert a formatted floppy
 - 'Places' -> 'Computer'
 - double click the icon of the floppy

Expected: floppy contents
Actual: / contents

Tried 8.04 desktop live CD under vmware:
 - boot live env
 - "insert" floppy
 - go to 'Places' -> 'Computer'
 - click on the floppy icon

Result:
floppy is mounted and it's content displayed

But I also get an error dialog:
Unable to mount location
Can't mount file

No additional details.

The first problem you reported it has been fixed in Hardy release.
That was bug #66869.

But unfortunately other three bugs came up in Hardy release, related to floppy disks...

Bug #206860

Bug #206856

and Bug #203722
that is what David reported on his last comment.
