Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

This problem does not occur every time I try the following action. However, it has occurred now a few times, so I decided to report it. There may be some translation differences in the name of the terms use, since my Firefox is in Portuguese.

When trying to open the personalize toolbar tag: Exhibit> Toolbars > Personalize... Firefox will unexpectedly close.

Thank you for the bug report. Could you please install the firefox-dbg package and try to obtain a backtrace (or crash report) by following the instructions on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs, or can you attach the full crash report in /var/crash. This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem.

Which flash package do you have installed?
Which Java package do you have installed?
Which firefox extensions do you have installed?

John:

I'm having problems trying to upload the crash report. The file is huge (10 MB) and I've tried several times to upload without success. When trying to open up the report on my machine, it takes up to 10 minutes to load the file, which is roughly 3000 pages long!

Flash package: Shockwave Flash 7.0 r69/ file name: libflashplayer.so

Java package: ava(TM) Plug-in 1.5.0_08/ file name: libjavaplugin_oji.so

Firefox Extensions: Forecastfox, Foxytunes, Verificacao ortografica pt-BR

Alexander:

It crashes occasionally when trying to access the personalize toolbar.

Eduardo,
We can try a few things here. You can attempt to email me the crash report at <email address hidden>.

Or you can copy the file into a newly created folder and cd into the folder and run mkdir parts. thank in the dir where the _usr_lib..... file is run "apport-unpack _usr_lib_firefox_firefox-bin.1000.crash parts" without the " and than attach each file in the directory "parts"

Or you can try copying it to say home dir. right click and create archive. (might not make it all that much smaller.

example for choice #2
mkdir bug86238 <enter>
cd bug86238 <enter>
mkdir parts <enter>
cp /var/crash/_usr_lib_firefox_firefox-bin.1000.crash ~/bug86238 <enter>
apport-unpack _usr_lib_firefox_firefox-bin.1000.crash parts <enter>

When thats done attach all the files in ~/bug86238/parts/

John,

following your instructions, I unpacked the crash report into a new folder. One of the files, named "CoreDump" is 112 MB. I will not upload this file for logical reasons. Please let me know if this file is necessary, and how we can manage to upload it.

John, Firefox crashed again. This time when trying to upload a file. When I opened the browse window Firefox shutdown. This time I am uploading a new crash report that was created as a reduced report, as I am not being able to recreate the last report with the CoreDump smaller than 110 MB.
