horrible performance in feisty

Bug Description

There seems to have been a performance regression in feisty's VTE. My working setup is to have several fullscreen (1280x800) gnome-terminals on 3 virtuial desktops and switch between them. This worked fine in dapper+edgy but when I upgraded to feisty I started to see a visible (i.e. 1-2 second) lag when switching between desktops. xterm doesn't appear to have this problem and after reading 85575, I decided to try downgrading libvte* back to edgy. Unfortunately (?) that 'fixed' the problem.

I have noted perfomance regression for Kubuntu Feisty on my two machines, laptop and graphics workstation. Everything is a bit slower. I wont downgrade, cause i wholeheartidly want to test Feisty and make it the best release of linux so far.. =)
