Bug Description

Binary package hint: mythtv-database

the current proposed mythtv-database for Edgy breaks mysql config.

1) creates new mythtv user (@localhost)
2) that user has insufficient permissions to use the mythconverg databse
3) the mythtv user's password is messed up.

I use mythtv@% so everyone on my lan could run a frontend. I had to remove the @localhost user which had bad permissions and change the mythtv user's password to get it all working again.

0.20-0.2ubuntu2.1~proposed1 is the version i'm referring to.

I just installed a fresh edgy VM and updated it to all the current updates. I then enabled the proposed repository and had no troubles with the update.

This behavior you are describing isnt caused by anything in the proposed update. The entire debdiff is available here: http://librarian.launchpad.net/4939357/mysqlfix.debdiff

The only change is to fix dapper->edgy upgrades.

The mythtv "user" doesn't get a password defined. It isn't intended to be directly logged into at this point.

I was able to recreate this situation 3 times.

I never meant the mythtv _system_ user, I meant the mythtv _mysql_ user.
That user's password gets mangled. And the rights get changed. Why? I
dont know. But every time I reinstall that proposed mythtv-database
version it does it again.

Could you check what
dpkg-reconfigure mythtv-common
and
dpkg-reconfigure mythtv-database
ask you for and provide for "sane" defaults for the password for the mythtv
mysql user?

Now does any of those things listed also happen with the version right
before the proposed version?

I will have to test when I can get full access to the mythtv box... my
girlfriend uses it. I'll reply ASAP with my findings though.
