./configure does not create make file

Bug Description

Downloaded program from ftp://ftp.openldap.org/pub/OpenLDAP/openldap-release/openldap-2.3.34.tgz

Unzipped the file, then:

cenora@USB-Ubuntu:~/Desktop/openldap-2.3.34$ ./configure --enable-shell --disable-debug

make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.

Thanks for your comments. This is not a bug in openldap, or in any other ubuntu package. Please raise questions or support requests about ubuntu at https://answers.launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+tickets rather than here in the bug tracker. Closing bug report.

(If you wish to compile something, actually installing compilers and development packages first would be most advisable.)

Hello cenora,

Thanks for the bug report.

I have some questions for you here:

1. you are trying to configure an upstream source. I am not sure why this would be a problem on Ubuntu.

2. notwithstanding (1), the configure messages are stating you do not have a C compiler, you either have to install one, or correctly set your path and environment.

Thanks. Installing gcc made it work.
