Thank you for your report. But the information you gave to us isn't enough to solve the problem. Please add some more information like the xorg.conf file(stored in /etc/X11/) or the log file called Xorg.0.log(stored in /var/log/)

System:

HP NX9105 Notebook with a nVidia Corporation NV17 [GeForce4 420 Go 32M] card and an external Samsung 940b 19 TFT.

I'm using the generic kernel and tested the 386 kernel which has the same effects.

I tried to reproduce the bug, but I failed. Even without the BusID in my xorg.conf(wich is missing in the one of greenhunter).

Do you have te problem also with nv and/or vesa? Maybe it's a bug in the nVidia drivers, and will a newer/older version of nvidia-glx solve the problem.

Is there anybody else who can confirm the problem?

I tried to new things.

1. I got my notebook up from under the table, switched tu nv, the notebook TFT and a lower resolution. This resulted in a lower cpu usage and less to non fan activity while randomly moving an xterminal across the screen.

2. Put my notbook across a open box to give him more air. Back to nvidia, MaxDepthcolor 16 and the external Monitor. This is little bit better than the beginning.

I will try envy, when it is available for feisty, and will see if this works better.

But one problem remains the windows of gaim, thunderbird and firefox are very very slow. I can count the seconds watching them to be drawn on the screen. And the cpu usage and fan activity is high every time.

Maybe xorg isn't the cause but nvidia-glx. Wich version of nvidia-glx are you using?

When do you have the problems with thunderbird, firefox, etc? With the nv or the nvidai driver, or maybe with both drivers?

I'm using nvidia-glx 1.0.9631 for feisty.

The problem occurs under both enviroments while loading firefox or thunderbird. But not during the rendering of a single web page.

I think it is indeed a duplicate of Bug #88815.
