Bug Description

SRU TESTCASE

1. start Ubuntu 2d session from the login screen
2. start gnome terminal
3. note the launcher hides since the new window is created just below the launcher area
4. now install metacity from oneiric-proposed
5. repeat 1 and 2
6. note now the new window is created just right to the launcher so that it does not hide

In the last rebuild of metacity, (metacity (1:2.34.1-1ubuntu4) oneiric on Sept. 16th ), this patch isn't being applied, it's in the patches folder but not listed in series file.

This causes the prior poor behaviour in unity-2d as noted in bug 688816

This was either done intentionally without comment in the changelog or unintentionally, in any event it's been almost 3 months, about time to address this one way or the other

not a regression update seems the patch never got applied. I have not fixed that in the linked branch and will get it sponsored the next year.

this patch was never applied in the first place it seems, the branch where the package was uploaded did not add it to the series file http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/oneiric/metacity/oneiric/revision/108#debian/patches/series

Hello Doug, or anyone else affected,

Accepted metacity into oneiric-proposed, the package will build now and be available in a few hours. Please test and give feedback here. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you in advance!

Please note that this update should *not* progress to oneiric-updates until this precise build failure on armel is addressed:

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/precise/+source/metacity/1:2.34.1-1ubuntu5

Otherwise armel will not be upgraded on an upgrade from 11.10 -> 12.04.

Clint -
In general working fine, tested on 11.10 (normal), 11.10 (unity staging), & 12.04

There are a couple of less common scenarios where it is ineffectual, but they require some user intervention & by no means should impact the patch being applied

(if an app like vlc that remembers/saves window position when closed is moved & then closed in the launcher area then upon re-opening it will open over the launcher
