Bug Description
Scrolling in nvi one line at a time is broken in the feisty version of gnome-terminal.
Normally, when the cursor is on the second to last last line of the terminal and you move down by a line, the displayed file is scrolled up by one line. Using vte from herd 5 onwards, it instead draws the next line of the file in the last line of the terminal, overwriting the status line and not scrolling the rest of the displayed file.
Downgrading libvte9 and libvte-common to the packages from edgy (0.14.1-0ubuntu) fixed the problem. It doesn't seem to be nvi's fault either as it works fine in an xterm.
