Bug Description

Binary package hint: abiword

Ubuntu Version: Feisty(latest update with kernel version: 2.6.20.12)
Abiword Version: 2.4.6-1.1ubuntu2

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open Abiword, and the splash screen appears, then the main window flashes and disappears, the whole application quits without any warning except "(Core dumped)"

There is no stack trace what so ever, and I've tried to start abiword with all verbosity levels, but still no stack trace, no error messages.

P.S. I'm using a Chinese version Ubuntu with SCIM input method.

I'm sorry, but there seemed to be no crash report present in /var/crash, and neither was there any crash error messages.

I can reproduce this, and confirm that no crash report is produced. What should we try next?

Hmm... It seems that my Abiword does not produce this crash anymore, which I don't know why...

Is this problem solved meanwhile? Because I have exactly the same problem when running Abiword under Xubuntu 7.04 with Japanese language support installed, where default language is set to Japanese.

Actually, I first tried to use Abiword with English as default language, it worked, but then Japanese characters could not be properly display. But switching to Japanese as default language lets Abiword crash as described above, but saves a file 無題1.abw.SAVED, cf. attached file.

I would be glad if you could provide as soon as possible a patch, because Abiword is the only reasonable word processor for Xubunutu.

Thanks, Stefan
