Bug Description

The current netboot images (i386, amd64) seem to be faulty somehow, because the files ftp and http in /lib/preseed/fetch-methods/ are empty ('file' is not). I have no idea why, I've netbooted feisty successfully on Mar. 8, and now that I tried (with -0ubuntu1{6,7,8}) it fails.

The initrd is fine, files are there and the size is correct. Using BOOT_DEBUG=3 makes it go into a debug shell, but the files are empty already while there.

and we have a duplicate! :)

Could this be a kernel issue?

the initrd causes this issue.
It contains the http and ftp files but it seems that these files are linked (when i unpack it on another machine cpio raises a warning).
I corrected this issue on my machine by deleting the ftp and http file and recreate them and then recreate the initrd.

Should be fixed by the preseed 1.28 sync I just did, which uses dh_link and so will create a symlink rather than a hard link. We'll see what happens once I rebuild d-i against it.

current daily-image does not work, same problem. Should it be fixed in it?

I recreated the initrd by copying the http-file to a different name, then removing the old files, renaming again to http and then symlinked ftp to it and repackaged the initrd. That made it work again.

I can confirm that the current daily-image does not work here either.

I don't know why Launchpad user jalf recently opened a task for this bug on libdebian-installer, but since no comment was given I'll assume it was an accident and close it again.
