Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-orca

I was upgrading from 6.10 to the Fiesty Beta. When finished Orca is not installed on the system. It was before. So I tried reinstalling it using synaptic only to get the following error:

E: gnome-orca: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

Unfortunately, I cannot reproduce this problem. Were you upgrading from the internet? Did you have the latest updates for 6.10 before upgrading to feisty?

Yes, I had the latest updates. It may have been a freak thing. I did
the standard upgrade from 6.10 to Feisty using the command line and
then that brought up the update thing with the upgrade button that I
clicked on. It was using the us repositories.
I fixed it by uninstalling orca and gnopericus. Then I ran the apt-get
build-dep gnome-orca. Then I installed orca again.
It should be noted that the version of Orca I was using before the
upgrade was a newer build. The main reason I am worried about this is
that other people may not be as able as me at trouble shooting and
running the latest version of Orca is important as it fixes bugs in
earlier versions. The computer is now happily running 2.18 and I will
be installing 2.19 on it soon.

Hi Beth. You installed the latest orca in such a way that it replaced the ubuntu version. That is generally bound to give you upgrade problem. Normally this kind of bug would just be rejected as unsupported, but you are right that peole will often do this. And we do actually want to encourage peope to test the latest or and the latest ubuntu. I'll post to the mailing list for ideas on this.

Feisty is no longer supported, please upgrade to a supported release, at least hardy or later.
