Bug Description

On a Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop, ATI mobility radeon X300, Ubuntu 7.04 BETA 1

When installing the Restricted drivers for ATI mobility radeon x300 with the tool included in linux ubuntu, the computer reboot with the new driver but can't return on the previous state with the open driver when the restricted driver is uninstalled through the tool included in linux ubuntu.

The screen still keep the resolution of the restricted driver after a reboot and can't use composite options like the restricted driver.

The steps to reproduce the bug is :

Click on System \ Administration \ Restricted Drivers Manager
Install the restricted drivers for the ATI card
Reboot Linux Ubuntu
Click on System \ Administration \ Restricted Drivers Manager
Uninstall the restricted drivers for the ATI card
Reboot Linux Ubuntu

And the restricted driver will still remain the one apparently used by linux to provide graphical interface, same if the Restricted Drivers Manager say that it is disabled.

From your description I am 95% sure that this has already been fixed in later versions. Before I annoy you with attaching log and configuration files, could you please upgrade your system to the latest packages and try this again?

Tested today and you're right. The bug is fixed, there's no problem now about switching between open and closed driver for ATI.

It's all the same with nvidia cards.

This case can be closed.
