Thanks for your bug report. The crash looks like a memory corruption. Could you try to get a valgrind log for it (you can follow the instructions from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Valgrind for that)?

Sorry but i've tried what you order me and it doesn't work. I got this when
i try to start valgrind:
dbkblk@3000-feisty:~$ G_SLICE=always-malloc G_DEBUG=gc-friendly valgrind -v
--tool=memcheck --leak-check=full --num-callers=40
--log-file=valgrind.log<program> <arguments>
bash: erreur de syntaxe près du jeton `<' inattendu

Moreover, i'm now not able to reproduce the error ! The gnome-main-menu
applet works ! (but it is only actually partially translated to french :/).
Thanks for developping Ubuntu : o)

you need to use gnome-session-remove gnome-panel to stop it then run with valgrind if you want a log, the <program> is the actual binary name you are using, "gnome-panel", the <arguments> are the optional argumants you might add to it
