Bug Description

Clicking on the Network Manager icon in the task bar shows "Wired network: device not managed" which means the network can be configured and brought up as required by the Ethernet QA test in https://wiki.linaro.org/Platform/QA/TestCases/Ubuntu

Seen in 12.03 RC1 build (http://snapshots.linaro.org/oneiric/ build id 20120327)

This would proably be fixed with "managed=true" in /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf
Alternatively removing eth0 from /etc/network/interfaces would work but would stop us having a working network until the device is fully booted. (And breaks non-desktop images which don't have Network Manager.)

Yes, this is because NM refuses to manage devices that are described at /etc/network/interfaces.

I don't see an easy way to fix without breaking at least one use case, need to check if forcing NM to manage all interfaces would cause any issue at the image.
