Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xgl

When i try to run a nested xgl session all I get is an empty black window. When I try to use a regular xgl session, I get garbled video that looks like the screenshot below.

http://img248.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img0769bf6.jpg

I'm using a Thinkpad t60p with a Radeon Mobility 5200 which is the X1600 of the laptop world. Under the ATI drivers, it registers as an X1600.

This is in feisty fawn, gnome, fglrx, etc.

Forgot to mention, in the photo I took, I was logging into an xgl session, and felt my way to a shell and ran glxgears which, to my surprise worked, albiet _very_ slowly.

The screenshot you showed is characteristic of what happens to Xgl in fglrx
when the fglrx kernel module is not loaded / couldn't be enabled but the
fglrx driver is specified in xorg.conf

Read over your /var/log/Xorg.0.log and look for any indications as to why
3D, DRM/DRI, or fglrx.ko could not be enabled.
