Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

I've tried to install Feisty Beta several times, but each time the installation hangs at the migration assistant. I've seen similar bugs posted (#91533, #89009) for herd 5, but I decided to post this bug for the Beta CD since I didn't see it posted. I'm using a Dell 8600 1.5g laptop that currently runs Dapper with no problem.

Every time the installer crashes, it asks to post a crash report, but I don't know where those go. I hope this is enough information.

Crash reports on the installer go right here, and I find them much easier to process as a general rule than other ubiquity bugs. Please use the crash reporting tool! I really do pay attention to it.

Could you run 'sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install ubiquity' from a terminal window before starting the installer, and see if migration-assistant still hangs? It should be a lot better now.

I'm was seeing the same behavior with the 7.04 Beta CD on a DELL 410 laptop. I did the update/install
as suggested which solved the problem.

That solution worked as well.

Before trying that solution, I got it installed by installing gparted, and using the --old-partitioner and --no-migration-assistant options with ubiquity. But, just to confirm, sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get install ubiquity seemed to do the trick.

Thanks!

The update works fine here on a Dell Dimension 5100. I hope this helps.
