nvu html editor is not in the repositories.

I Nvu is there, but has changed name then we need a way to link the two names together so I can find it.

Nvu has not changed names as such. A new project called Kompozer has started looking at fixing the bugs in the Nvu codebase. Nvu has been removed from Ubuntu since it was removed from Debian, but Kompozer hasn't made an appearance in either yet.

Hi, I can confirm this.

It's a little weird because the old usable tool is removed _before_ the new one is available....

Any tool to replace at the moment with "graphical" editing of web Pages (mandatory), and that is available in current repos ?

Thanks in advance.

Wouldn't it make sense to make a transition package "nvu" that depends on "kompozer" ? It's maybe a new project, but for what any end-user is concerned, it's the same codebase with another name. Currently when upgrading from Edgy, the nvu package is just removed and there's no hint that kompozer can/should be installed instead.

Actually, since Feisty doesn't have neither nvu proper nor kompozer, the Feisty nvu package should be empty/without dependencies. Then when upgrading to Gutsy, the Gutsy package can pull in Kompozer through a dependency.

Tony, I took the chance of subscribing you to this bug since you seem to be the de facto Kompozer maintainer.

That seems like a reasonable suggestion Tormod. However, I asked some folks for thoughts, and they suggested it wouldn't really fit the criteria for a stable release upload (ie, changing it in already released versions), but would be a good thing to add to Hardy for the LTS->LTS upgrades that will happen in the spring, so I think I'll do that but not try to mess with Edgy-Gutsy. One reason I didn't include an upgrade path originally was b/c the exact future and relationship of Nvu and KompoZer wasn't quite clarified yet, and doing so might have been politically iffy (they can actually both be installed as separate programs, btw), but that seems to be cleared up now.

btw, while I'm commenting I should add that in addition to gutsy universe, kompozer is also now in feisty-backports.
