This project aims to help in the creation of a (massively) multiplayer game playable with several different clients, enabling different styles of play (roleplaying, real-time strategy, minigames) within one game instance.

This project is currently in a very early stage, where I try to order my ideas and collect them here. I plan on beginning to code as early as possible to get an impression on what I want and what is possible. I also started this project to enhance my skills in application development and programming.

In general, this game should be a Massively Multiplayer Online Game playable with several different clients. These clients may include a web-interface for playing in a browser (mainly for the realtime strategy [RTS] part), several stand-alone clients (for RTS, minigames, roleplaying, ...) and probably a few others (java applets, flash, mobile applications, ...).

To get this project going as fast as possible, I'd like to use languages and libraries that help with rapid development. Therefore, my main language choice would be Python. I'd like to use the Zope Object Database for storage as well as the Twisted Framework for Networking, mainly for learning these two libraries. There are several possibilities for client development, because the main goal is to write a game that is a mixture of many game genres. Clients could be written with several different User Interfaces, from browserbased (with django?) to 3D-clients using OpenGL.
