Language selection happens twice with graphical grub

Bug Description

Testing the daily (20050212) dapper install CD I've noticed that the
lovely new graphical CD boot screen allows us to change the language in
which it is displayed. But then, of course, once the install begins, the
user gets to choose the language once again. Of course, there is a good
reason for this, but I wonder if it would be possible to carry over the
language selection from the CD boot screen to the installer?

We already do carry over the language selection to the installer,
provided that the language selection isn't English. My grounds for this
exclusion are that I think many people will ignore the language choice
in the boot loader and then be stumped as to why the installer assumes
English; it's pre-emptive anti-bug-report defence ...

Then why is there a language selection in the boot loader? Having two possibilities only confuses users.

The graphical bootloader doesn't only affect installation, but also important features such as media integrity verification and rescue operations. It is important that all of these things can be done in localized environments.

I agree with Mark that this is a fairly elegant solution--English has the convenience of being default but the failsafe of being confirmed before a system install.

I think Colin chose wisely to confirm English (the additional question
at the start of the install is ONLY asked if you are proceeding in
English) because its entirely possible that someone did not see the
alternative language option on the boot screen.

Another option would be to have a simpler question there like "Confirm
you wish to install in English" which brings up the full list of you say
No. Perhaps we can consider that for Dapper+1.

Agreed; the user needs to make an explicit choice for their language
preference, whether in the boot loader or later on.
