Bug Description

Hi

As my former reported bug ( Bug #47489) has, for any mysterious reason, disappeared, let me put it down again because in my opinion it's a major issue regarding sata disks (I may be wrong, you're the experts)

I wanted to re-install, on my laptop, Ubuntu from scratch with the May 30 release. At the first reboot, the PC has been completely blocked (see details down below).

Then I restored my April saved version (2.6.15-20-386), thanks to partimage, and it run fine again. One step further, I updgraded from this release to today's, no Pb, but when I rebooted on kernel 2.6.15-23-386 , I got the same sync Pb as the one coming from a new install from today's version i.e.:

[4294712.245000] <0> kernel panic - not syncing: fatal exception in interrupt.

I then rebooted from my previous saved kernel (2.6.15-20-386) and it WORKED FINE as before

My PC is a laptop Toshiba M70-168
Processor: Intel M40 1.7 GHz
HD: SATA 80 GB
Ram: 512
Hi

Good luck and Thx for the correction (I hope!!)

PS: I picked-up some typical errors from the last page
[4294712.245000] scsi_error_handler+0x0/0x120 [scsi mod]
[4294712.245000] ata_scsi_error_handler+0x12/0x30 [libatal]
[4294712.245000] scsi_error_handler+0xaa/0x120 [scsi mod]

No answer/ question from your part????

I did my best to give you every valuable information!!

I've tried right now the latest released install CD from 1-6-2006: no difference.

For your info 1, I've installed the grub (from the new confusing Ubuntu grub install program) in /dev/sda because I've got one sata disk only.

For your info 2 (might help) at the first reboot, before getting blocked, the menu doesn't mention the existing WinXP. My menu's just got

Ubuntu 2.6.15.23 ...
Ubuntu 2.6.15.23 recovery
Ubuntu memory mem86

Please give me info (feed-back) before I through Dapper away from my laptop and keep Windows XP only, sorry for that but I feel a bit abandonned!!

Looking forward ...

still the same w/ today's version (10 luly 2006), kernel 2.6.15-26-386.

Anything you could do for my SATA Toshiba laptop ?

No other solution but coming back to the ultimate working version: kernel 2.6.15-20-386
