Minolta PagePro 1300W doesn't work

Bug Description

Cupsys error logs says that printer cannot print because is off-line.
But thats not truth, printer is connected. min12xxw driver is installed cups configured. I can manage printer, manage it's jobs etc. But it simple doesn't want to start printing and well... now I got printer that only makes some noise.

Workable on Breezy, unworkable after dist-upgrade to current Dapper

I've the same problem with a Konica Minolta 2400w and drivers m2300/2400w from m2300w.sf.net.
It was working fine under Breezy, but nothing happens (no printing at all) with Dapper :(
So at the moment, I can't print at all under my ubuntu linux, need to reboot under windows for this.

I followed this howto:
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Konica_Minolta_printers_with_CUPS_and_FOOMATIC
I mean I downloaded Minolta-PagePro_1200W-min12xxw.ppd and I copied them to the proper directory and I downloaded min12xxw-0.0.9.tar.gz, I did
./configure
./make
./make install
and my Minolta PagePro 1200W printer start printing :o)

I am not sure whether this error report and the Magicolor-issue are the same (see bug #29966 for more details about the printing problems of the 2400W).

Is it a kernel problem instead of cupsys?

I got dapper upgraded today (2006-04-25) and this printer still doesn't want to work :(

I really don't know what's going on because this printer is detected and installed by cups I can send some print works to this printer and I even can see printer status icon in notification area.

But it still doesn't want to start printing... It's not hardware problem because this printer works good with windows and some time ago this printer even worked with Breezy (!).

Martin, do you still “Needs Info"?

When my printer plugs in /dev/usblp0 works (like bug 34971)
But once I used CUPS to print anything, the device is locked, and I can no longer print anything.

I experience the exact same problem after an upgrade from breezy to dapper. my pagepro 1300w is well detected by cups, but nothing is printed whenever a job is sent to it. gnome tells me it is printing, but it is not. i have min12xxw installed from apt-get.

this stuff is really annoying: i have to reboot under windows for printing.

Can you please upgrade to the latest dapper versions and then do
:
  sudo /etc/init.d/cupsys stop
  sudo rm /var/log/cups/*
  sudo /etc/init.d/cupsys start

then (attempt to) print something, and then attach /var/log/cups/error_log here? Thank you!

neutrico (neutrico) wrote :

I think that now I understand what is the problem...

I got two error messages in error_log:

Creating missing directory "/var/run/cups/certs"

And another

CUPS-Add-Modify-Printer: Unauthorized

And when I want to add new printer then it is not detected by gnome cups GUI.
And I can add this printer manually but is seems not to be connected anywhere.

Because in printer properties I can see that it is local printer and "Use a detected printer" field is inactive - I got "Use another printer by specifying a port" but Printer port is "hp no_device_found"

And there is printer icon in printers dialog and status is 'ready' but no printing at all.

If you can solve this I would be very happy because currently I can use this printer connected to another machine running windows.

Martin Pitt (pitti) wrote :

The two error messages are harmless and occur every time. If this is a parallel port printer, then the latest cups version (1.2.0-0ubuntu2) may help, which loads the 'lp' and 'ppdev' modules at start. This should fix automatic detection of the printer. However, that will probably not fix the actual printing. Is there anything else in the error_log?

No there is nothing else in error_log.

I'm sure that the problem is not with cups and driver but with connectivity. I really don't understand why there is no way to select USB port.

Of course this printer should be detected 'automagically' but it is not - and more if I try to set printer manually then there is no way to select usb port.

As I said earlier 'hp no_device_found' as the only available port is propably main problem.

I upgraded to new cups 1.2.0-0ubuntu2 but nothing changed.

This printer is USB only device.
You can find more details here:
http://www.printer-konicaminolta.com/sg/product/mono/pagepro_1300w/kmproduct_specs

And I cleaned error_log again and now this is an output:
E [11/May/2006:20:30:04 +0200] CUPS-Add-Modify-Printer: Unauthorized
E [11/May/2006:20:54:52 +0200] [Job 5] No %%BoundingBox: comment in header!

But more interesting part is from /var/log/messages:

And the most funny thing is that this printer was workable on dapper (!).
