Bug Description

Since installing Flight 6, hibernation doesn't work on my Dell Latitude 110l. It was working fine with Flight 5 (and before in Dapper and Breezy).

When attempted a hibernation, the laptop turns itself off normally. But on the way back up, it simply does a normal boot. And everytime a hibernation is attempted, my swap partition ends up being corrupted, and I have to reformat it as swap (using gparted) to be usable again.

This bug was seen with linux-image-2.6.15-20.30_i386 released a few hours ago.

Can you attach /var/log/kern.log from a full hibernate/resume attempt?

Here is a kernel log file which include a normal boot, followed by a hibernation attempt:

Normal boot:
 Apr 6 16:14:03

Going into hibernation:
 Apr 6 16:16:42

Coming back from hibernation:
 Apr 6 16:19:54

Following this recipe from Matthew Garrett seems to have solved it:

>> echo RESUME=/dev/whatever | sudo tee /etc/mkinitramfs/conf.d/resume

It turned out that I started using espresso install for both Flight 6 and Beta, so that's when my hibernate stopped working.

I have the same problem, my laptop is an Acer 3623.

I also installed using espresso install, and the file /etc/mkinitramfs/conf.d/resume is not available.

I will try the fix soon.

Can you confirm whether this bug is still showing up in the latest Flight 7 or whether the resume information is being correctly configured.

Thanks for your report. This is also bug 42299, and is fixed in current daily builds (*not* Flight CD 7).

Okay, I'll wait for Flight 8 and test again.

I have all of the updates installed and hibernate still does not work?

Colin Watson (cjwatson) wrote :

This was an installer bug; the fix is not susceptible to updates. Put RESUME=/dev/whatever (where /dev/whatever is your swap device) in /etc/mkinitramfs/conf.d/resume by hand; if that does not work then it is *not* this bug, and is perhaps bug 43114 instead.

I have RESUME=/dev/hda3 in the resume file and it makes no difference. So I'll wait on a fix for bug 43114.

Launchpad Janitor (janitor) wrote : This bug is now reported against the 'linux' package

Beginning with the Hardy Heron 8.04 development cycle, all open Ubuntu kernel bugs need to be reported against the "linux" kernel package. We are automatically migrating this linux-source-2.6.15 kernel bug to the new "linux" package. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this transition. Also, if you would be interested in testing the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release, it is available at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . Please let us know your results. Thanks!
