Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Dim monitor on battery doesn't work on Apple MacBook. There's a fix available here: http://desrt.mcmaster.ca/macbook.xhtml

Install packages "macbook-backlight" and "macbook-backlight-hal":

The primary result of installing this package is that gnome-power-manager will be able to control your backlight (for example, allowing you to change the brightness through the UI and dimming when you go off of AC power, etc).

This sounds more like an ACPI issue than a kernel issue.

No, it's really a kernel issue.

"macbook-backlight-hal" no longer works with Edgy, although it did with Dapper!

Can I test this using the LIVE CD on my MacBook? I have not yet installed Ubuntu on my shinny new MacBook as I am afraid I will wipe my precious data from MacOSX.

The 18 month support period for Edgy Eft 6.10 has reached its end of life. As a result, we are closing the linux-source-2.6.17 Edgy Eft kernel task. However, development has already began for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. It would be helpful if you could test the upcoming release and verify if this is still an issue - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . If the issue still exists, please update this report by changing the Status of the "linux" task from "Incomplete" to "New". We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this transition. Thanks!
