can you show me the result of " env | grep scim"

The result of "env | grep scim" is:
QT_IM_MODULE=scim
GTK_IM_MODULE=scim

I tried to install with same settings again, this time it works. The first few starts I got an error message, but skim is running now. I wanted to write down the message, but I don't get it anymore. I didn't changed anything.
I remember something like ~Communication error with dcopserver~.

Now I got the error message:

"There was an error setting up inter-process communications for KDE. The message returned by the system was:

Could not read network connection list.
/home/juern/.DCOPserver_nora__0

Please check that the "dcopserver" program is running!"

I saw this on a fresh Simplified Chinese install of Dapper on powerpc today (day before release, archive frozen for release). Unfortunately I couldn't read the dialog since I can't read Chinese - the only words I understood were "skim" and "SIGSEGV" - and I didn't get a useful backtrace since I didn't have gdb installed. On the third attempt, login succeeded and skim appeared to be running. I cannot find any logs of what the problem might have been.

After successful login, 'env | grep scim' returns the same results for me as it did for Juernjakob Harder.

Got the same DCOPserver related error on a fresh install of Kubuntu 6.06 English, error started after I downloaded the Chinese language packs for SKIM.

The actual cause I think comes down to SKIM trying to load itself too early in the KDE startup process, before the DCOPserver is loaded infact.

The problem will be eliminated if you:

cd /etc/X11/Xsession.d
sudo mv 90im-switch 98im-switch

Have had multiple boot ups after this change, and have had no reoccurrence of the error message, SKIM/SCIM continue to work fine.

I've filed a bug report here (#48484) so that SKIM maintainers could update their install scripts to lower the start up sequence of the SKIM.

Jonathan, lowering the start up sequence of Skim didn't change anything for me. After two weeks using Dapper and skim I still receive this message at boot:

There was an error setting up inter-process communications for KDE. The message returned by the system was:

Could not read network connection list.
/home/regis/.DCOPserver_regis__0

Please check that the "dcopserver" program is running!
