Tool to provide a fake root environment.
Some programs really want to run as root, even though they don't do anything that requires root priveleges. Fakeroot wraps various glibc functions and makes programs think they have them while running as a regular user account. One use of this is to store files in tar archives with root ownership but without creating the tarball as root.
