ffmpeg's trunk series.
This is the 2.3 release branch, designed to be compatible with FFmpeg 2.2. It was cut from master on 2014-07-16, and includes all changes from libav master of 2014-07-15, libav 10.2 as of 2014-07-15.
It is codenamed as "Mandelbrot", after French mathematician BenoƮt Mandelbrot who developed the beautiful Mandelbrot set (try `ffplay -f lavfi -i mandelbrot`) and the idea of fractals.
This branch is not formally maintained anymore. We encourage all users to move to 2.4 which has an almost fully compatible API (but not ABI).

The 2.2 release branch was cut from master on 2014-03-01. Amongst lots of other changes, it includes all changes from ffmpeg-mt, libav master of 2014-03-01, libav 10.3 as of 2014-08-04.
This release is codenamed "Muybridge", to commemorate English photographer Eadweard Muybridge who invented the first "movie".
Although the 2.2 series is still supported, all users are encouraged to upgrade to 2.4 which has more features and bug fixes, and full API source-level compatibility to 2.2.
This branch was cut from master on 2013-10-28. Amongst lots of other changes, it includes all changes from ffmpeg-mt, libav master of 2013-10-27, libav 9 as of 2013-10-27.
This branch is codenamed "Fourier", named after French mathematician Joseph Fourier. He discovered Fourier transform, which is the basis of modern audio coding.
This branch is OBSOLETE. Please use the supported 2.4 branch which has more features and less bugs, and receives security fixes. 2.2 is almost completely compatible to 2.2 on a source level, besides the removal of AVStream.

This branch is not supported anymore. We always strongly suggest users to use the latest release or, even better, Git master. But if you really need API/ABI compatibility with 1.1, we suggest users to use the supported 1.2 branch for more features, security fixes.

This branch was cut from master on 2011-12-11. Amongst lots of other changes, it includes all changes from ffmpeg-mt, libav master of 2011-12-11, libav 0.7.2 as of 2011-12-11.
