PIWI (PIWI IMAP Webmail Interface) is a Web 2.0 application which acts as a front-end to email server(s). It is currently in the early stages of development and at present has support for Postfix, Courier-IMAP and renders correctly in Mozilla Firefox 2 or greater (makes use of CSS3).

The development of PIWI came about due to the lack of free opensource webmail applications with support for the latest web technologies. Furthermore, it was designed with multiple email server support in mind, allowing the one webmail application to manage a users multiple accounts across various email servers.

PIWI sports a Database Abstraction Layer (DBAL) and IMAP Abstraction Layer (IMAPAL) which allows compatibility with multiple database and IMAP backends.
