Bug Description

When I installed Feisty Fawn Herd 1 my acx111 based card did not work. It worked in Dapper. When I ran the command iwconfig it showed up as wlan0 but it got an "no wireless extensions"-message.

I tried to load the 1.X firmware as I had to do in Dapper, but it did not make a difference. I couldn't find any special messages or errors in dmesg.

The card does work when I load it with ndiswrapper-utils (1.9).

I have an acx100 based wireless PCI card (DLink 520+) and it does not work under Herd2 either. network-admin shows the card as a "wired" card (not as wireless) and iwconfig does not allow assigning an ESSID.

I am also suffering from this bug. My wireless card worked well in Edgy (well, apart from NetworkManager), but is detected as a wired card in Feisty, and so doesn't work at all.

This page:

http://acx100.sourceforge.net/wiki/Distribution_list/Ubuntu

also confirms that ACX111 cards are currently broken in Feisty, and suggests a "solution" of compiling your own driver using the latest version.

Bug #78075 has a patch for Feisty to include the (working) latest driver version. Unfortunately it currently has Low priority. Would it be possible for this to be given a higher priority please?

Hmm, maybe I'll try recompiling the drivers to see if that works. But currently (Herd 2) doesn't work at all on my laptop. It won't boot properly.

Launchpad Janitor (janitor) wrote : This bug is now reported against the 'linux' package

Beginning with the Hardy Heron 8.04 development cycle, all open Ubuntu kernel bugs need to be reported against the "linux" kernel package. We are automatically migrating this bug to the new "linux" package. However, development has already began for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. It would be helpful if you could test the upcoming release and verify if this is still an issue - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . If the issue still exists, please update this report by changing the Status of the "linux" task from "Incomplete" to "New". We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this transition. Thanks!
