Bug Description

I don't know if this is only for my language (Slovenian) but, when there are updates available in kicker, when there is adept notifier icon shown and when you go over that icon it should say how many updates are available but it only says: "BROKEN TRANSLATON There is %n updates available"

It's probably adept-notifier but I'm not sure.

Thanks for your comment. Ubuntu gets its translations from http://launchpad.net/rosetta. This is the place where translation teams
actively work on making Ubuntu more useful in their language. If you want
to change a certain text, Rosetta is the right place for it.

I found the adept Rosetta page, but unfortunately it seems it hasn't been set up yet: https://translations.launchpad.net/products/adept/+translations

Are you interested in volunteering to translate adept to Slovenian?

I would love to translate adept to slovenian.

Dear Jean Darcoux,

I noticed that you're listed as the "product registrant" for the
Ubuntu adept package ( https://launchpad.net/adept/ ). Grega (one of
the Ubuntu users) pointed out that Adept's Slovenian translation is
incomplete/inaccurate, but he is willing to assist with the
translation efforts (Please see Ubuntu bug report #51609
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/adept/+bug/51609 ). Since your
name was listed as the product registrant for adept, I would like to
ask you what the best way to proceed would be at this point. If you
can assist with this further, I can assign the bug to you. Please
advise.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks Grega!

I contacted the product registrant for adept to see what the best course of action is in this case.

The product registrant is not responding... I'll try the package maintainer.

I've gotten several suggestions from Ubuntu volunteers, and I decided to report this problem upstream (i.e. to KDE). Here's the KDE bug report I filed on your behalf: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=140425

You can fix that in Ubuntu from:

https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/edgy/+source/adept/+translations

Change edgy with the distro release you are using.

Once changed in Ubuntu, at the beginning of next month, a new language pack will be released with that translation fixed.

Of course, that doesn't mean that you shouldn't fix it upstream. Coordination with upstream is essential.

Cheers.

Hi GregaS,

If you go to https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/edgy/+source/adept/+pots/adept-notifier and scroll down to Slovenian, you will see your name associated with the translation. Please feel free to help with the translation there.

I am therefore closing this bug report and marking it as "resolved" under Ubuntu. If you wish to also help the KDE team with any Slovenian translation, please don't hesitate to contact them. I opened a bug for the issue here: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=140425

Thanks!

I had the same problem with polish language.
Once upon a time I had updated my Dapper, and it screwed my adept_notifier translation, then I found this:

http://i18n.kde.org/stats/gui/trunk/pl/playground-sysadmin/index.php

After downloading adept_notifier.po use:
msgfmt adept_notifier.po -o adept_notifier.mo
and put .mo file into /usr/share/locale-langpack/pl (replace pl with your language code).
Restart adept_notifier.

But after dist-upgrade to edgy this problem seemed to reapper, so I had to replay this whole operation again. Download, make .mo file, put it in the right place.

Just to clarify, the link for the Slovenian translation is http://i18n.kde.org/stats/gui/trunk/sl/playground-sysadmin/index.php also please note that in teh above example, anything with "pl" in it needs to be replaces with "sl" to indicate Slovenian.

Sorry for the late reply... I've been tied up with other things. You can edit these "POT" files with just a text editor. There are detailed instructions available here on how to do it (make sure to read the phoen chapter, it's got a few pages):
http://i18n.kde.org/docs/translation-howto/gui-translation.html

Once you have translated all the files, I suggest getting in touch with KDE's Slovenian internatiolization team:
http://l10n.kde.org/team-infos.php?teamcode=sl

They should be able to direct you further on how to submit your work to the KDE project.

Again, my apologies for such a late reply, and many, many thanks for doing this!!! Let me know if I can be of any further help.

Szyszart (szyszart) wrote :

I've noticed that the Polish translation is also broken. Adept Notifier shows something like "Broken translation. There is %n updated packages".

I've found what the reason is and how to repair it. There is no plural form definition in adept_notifier.po (text file, which contains the translation). All you have to do to repair the translation is to download the adept_notifier.po file from http://i18n.kde.org/stats/gui/trunk/pl/playground-sysadmin/index.php (of course download a version for your language), add one line with a suitable plural declaration (you can found a plural declaration for your language here: https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/edgy/+source/adept/+pots/adept-notifier - open this page and select your language - a plural declaration will be shown somewhere on the page), use msgfmt to "compile" the translation (open a terminal, go to a directory containing the po file and type: msgfmt adept_notifier.po -o adept_notifier.mo) and finally copy the *.mo file which is the output of msgfmt to the right directory (which is /usr/share/locale-langpack/<your language>/LC_MESSAGES/).

This is how the header of adept_notifier.po should look (the plural definition is for Polish):

msgid ""
msgstr ""
"Project-Id-Version: adept_notifier\n"
"POT-Creation-Date: 2006-05-01 11:11+0200\n"
"PO-Revision-Date: 2006-03-21 08:37+0100\n"
... blah blah blah
"X-Generator: KBabel 1.11.2\n"
"Plural-Forms: nplurals=3; plural=(n==1 ? 0 : n%10>=2 && n%10<=4 && (n%100<10 || n%100>=20) ? 1 : 2);\n"

The last line is the line which really matters.

For Polish users: I've attached the modified version of adept_notifier.po and adept_notifer.mo (the "compiled" version, ready to use).

Hope that helps.
