LifeDrive's hard disk doesn't mount automatically

Thanks for pointing out how to debug this, required details follow.

hal does not know anything about this drive:

  volume.label = '' (string)
  volume.uuid = '' (string)
  volume.fsversion = '' (string)
  volume.fsusage = '' (string)
  volume.fstype = '' (string)
  storage.model = '' (string)

Can you actually mount it manually? I. e. does

  sudo mount /dev/sda1 /mnt

work and give you the files in /mnt? (unmount it with 'sudo umount /mnt').

If it fails, what is the output? What does 'sudo blkid' say?

sudo mount /dev/sda1 /mnt actually works, nothing is output. One issue is that GNOME doesn't seem to recognise that this volume is mounted, it doesn't come up in Nautilus or in the "Places" list.

The relevent parts of the output of sudo blkid is:

/dev/sda1: LABEL="LIFEDRIVE" UUID="1234-5678" TYPE="vfat"
/dev/sdb1: SEC_TYPE="msdos" LABEL="TOM-TOM" UUID="0102-0304" TYPE="vfat"

palm Lifedrive 4Go, same problem, feisty up to date:

Sorry, forgot to add it used to work OK in edgy.

The interesting part of gvm.log:

manager.c/2324: no sensible filesystem for /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_part1_size_4002841088

The hard disk is just a normal vfat partition.

The situation is still the same with gutsy up to date. Any chance this bug can get some attention ? Thanks.

Also (still) experiencing this with latest gutsy. No fix on the horizon? What is the real problem here?
