This is by design. The installer employs some complex layouts and the most straightforward and reliable way to accomplish this is to force the window to a fixed size.

The slideshow should never be cut off. If it is in Natty, please file a separate bug for that. The advanced partitioner is a bit cramped at the moment due to a particularly long string for the bootloader options.
