OpenSnitch - application firewall (Xenial & newer)

OpenSnitch dependency packages only (easier install) for Xenial & newer.

This PPA contains dependency packages for OpenSnitch GUI, making it easier to install on SavOS supported Ubuntu systems (16.04, 18.04, 20.04, 22.04). The actual source code is NOT currently built here, pre-packaged builds of OpenSnitch daemon and GUI will be required from the upstream repository.

See https://github.com/evilsocket/opensnitch/releases for deb packages of both the daemon (opensnitch_X.X.X-X_{amd64,i386}.deb) and the Python GUI (python3-opensnitch-ui_X.X.X-X_all.deb, where X.X.X-X is current version).

On latest systems (ie. 22.04 Jammy) the default official gRPC package will likely not work (see https://github.com/evilsocket/opensnitch/issues/647). Rebuilds of gRPC with newer Abseil are also found here, which may (or may not) work better than the official gRPC packages on latest Ubuntu systems.

An example of an OpenSnitch installation process could then be as follows:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:savoury1/opensnitch
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo dpkg -i opensnitch_1.5.2-1_amd64.deb
sudo dpkg -i python3-opensnitch-ui_1.5.2-1_all.deb
sudo apt-get -f install

Above commands assume that version 1.5.2 (latest stable release, Jul 2022) deb packages (daemon & GUI) have been downloaded to the current directory.

The -f (--fix-broken) option to apt-get installs the missing dependencies for python3-opensnitch-ui if there are any. For colored themes support (similar in style to "Material Design") also run the following command:

sudo apt-get install python3-qt-material
