I first got hooked on Open Source software development as a committer on the Eclipse project. I worked on SWT, the widget toolkit used in Eclipse, for eight years and really enjoyed interacting with end users and other developers through newsgroups, bug reports and conferences. In my opinion, Open Source is the most satisfying way to develop code. Now I am a PhD candidate in Computer Science at the University of Victoria where I specialize in Mathematical Visualizations and the creation of Digital Mathematical Art as a way of learning and exploring ideas in Mathematics. I have been using Inkscape with elementary students and am impressed at how quickly they pick the tools up. I am interested in creating a version of the Inkscape User Interface that is targeted at teens and pre-teens.
