This issue has been fixed upstream; see upstream bug report #5822 here: http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/5822. Shotwell versions 0.13.1 and later include much more robust guards against malformed response data from web servers.

This bug was fixed in the package shotwell - 0.13.1-0ubuntu2

Accepted shotwell into quantal-proposed. The package will build now and be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shotwell/0.13.1-0ubuntu1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

Tested that publishing still works fine, but didn't fake the server.
