is 'CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+R' working in trusty with gnome-shell 3.8?

Are there any errors in the logs?

Yes it works fine with 3.8 on trusty. It's only upgrading to 3.10 things go wron and the logs are not showing much at present.

screencast is now triggered by gnome-settings-deamon which will need this patch added backported to 3.8:

Not too sure their should be a hard coded 30 second max screencast timeout.

From the diff linked to in #6.

  /* Screencasts last for 30 seconds */
  #define SCREENCAST_LENGTH 30

yes I saw that, it seems that they can no longer cancel recording with when disk space is running low etc, since its launch by g-s-d..... We could probably increase it a bit, but wouldnt remove it entirely

Phil Wyett (aura-yoda) wrote :

That is quite odd as g-s-d I think also controls low disk space via:

  org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/housekeeping

and is active to be triggered by default. Am I missing something here?

Tim Lunn (darkxst) wrote :

The housekeeping plugin does not know about the screencast process!

previously the screencast was entirely handled by gnome-shell in which they could abort if disk got low, and perhaps if the session went idle (atleast its looks like that in code, I never really use it). Now the activation is separated, thats not possible.

Seems like this hardcoded limit has been a hot topic.

By this section on gnome bugzilla, we may get some configurability in 3.10 for screencast length.

Re #9 and #12.

Can we up the timeout as I hit this recording a bug today. Just managed to demo the bug in 30 seconds.

Can we up the default or better add the patch:

https://bug708660.bugzilla-attachments.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=256110 from the bug in #12.
