Just to make this machine readable, the error is in installing the base system:

No installable kernel was found in the defined APT sources.

You may try to continue without a kernel, and manually install your
own kernel later. This is only recommended for experts, otherwise you
will likely end up with a machine that doesn't boot.

btw, the busybox shell doesn't allow for typical apport collection.

As a tester I have a pile of partitions with lubuntu, ubuntu various levels, windows7, plus experimenting with Mate, debian lxde and Google 3.12 on built in hard drive and external USB solid state drive.

I set up my partitions for testing the way I want with Gparted.

Manual install of Lubuntu 2014/10/16 booting the iso from hard drive went exactly cookbook nothing unexpected.

BTW, wide screen 1368x768 external monitor the lubuntu panel is on left side like "unhidden" unity giving me more vertical lines than the way unity usually sets up. Lubuntu has noticeably more snap than Unity on this Intel Atom 1.66 gHz duo 2 gb.

the BusyBox prompt offers no access to apt/dpkg tools, at least not that i'm aware of. unfortunately, the whole d-i process is kind of a mystery to me. so i'm not sure what to do as far as testing in situ is concerned.

as soon as d-i is rebuilt, i'll get Lubuntu Alternate images rebuilt so we can test with the new apt on the image already. hopefully the release manager for Ubuntu Server can get the same going on.

i encourage everyone to check the .list file for /pool/main/a/apt/apt_1.0.9.2ubuntu2_*.deb before you test e.g. you can see with the old one (http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/daily/20141016/utopic-alternate-i386.list) that it's 1.09.2ubuntu1 that's listed. you don't want that. don't bother testing it. needless to say, it will be 20141017 you need!

ok according to `rmadison apt`, the new apt is indeed in the repos, so a rebuild off the tracker will pull it in. that being said, i'm rebuilding now.
