would like to be able to add attachment(s) while filing the bug

Bug Description

From #ubuntu-devel:

<stewart> do you want me to paste those files intothe comments?
<Kamion> stewart: no - file the bug, then you'll get an "Add Attachment" link or similar down the right-hand side

It would be nice if Malone offered some way to add at least one attachment with the bug report, or failing that to document on the +filebug page that you will be able to add attachments later, to prevent users becoming confused like this.

There have been requests for various extra filebug options, e.g.,
Cc'ing other users, and specs like:

   <https://wiki.launchpad.canonical.com/SecurityTeams>

suggest even more options that will be added.

I don't see a problem with having advanced options hidden with a
disclosure triangle though.

mpt, what do think?

Having advanced options hidden by a disclosure triangle is a very good idea.

What would be cooler is to remember the state of this disclosure triangle as
well, so that it stays in the last state you've manipulated t to.

We're one step closer to this, now that I'm working on the guided filebug workflow. It includes a link on the initial page, to the "complicated bug filing form", which gives us some license to get dirty.

I've filed a number of bugs lately and have found this quite odd. I've never come across a BTS that didn't allow attachments with the initial report.

It's rather clumsy to have to return to the bug report and add the attachment one had intended to add with the initial report.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that noticed this. :-)

I'd just like to add that the lack of option to attach whilst filing a bug initially is probably the major cause of large number of people pasting inline instead of attaching which makes a lot of bugs very hard to read

I'd like to "me too" this bug. We get far too many bugs with very large files pasted into the comment box. This is because there is nowhere for the newbie bug reporter to add their file except via copy and paste.

This means that some bugs take ages to load. It would make bug traigers work easier if attachments were allowed when submitted, and if they were told to attach rather than paste.

It seems like quite a lot of peple want this feature, it shouldn't have Low priority.

Ubuntu's automated problem reporter is bringing new users in and running them straight into this bug. The standard message box says (essentially) "Check your bug isn't a duplicate, and then describe the problem and attach this file." We need to help these new users know what they should do, as Caroline Ford points out.

Since the problem is that newbies don't know about the "attach files" box on the next screen, we could just say "To attach files, submit the bug then follow the `Add a comment/attachment` link." on the bug submission page.

Should "Newbie has no indication of how to attach a file" be a different bug from "We'd like things to be easier when submitting new bugs"? I'd be disappointed if new users weren't helped out just because this bug looks started out as a feature request.

I can't help but wonder why the energy put into redecorating Launchpad wasn't put to use in fixing this bug instead. Is this not as important?
